"I am not very fond of sweet things and sugar - and yet I became a pastry chef." Rose of Rose Bakery.
I’ve heard a few things here and there about Rose Bakery and always from girls. When I got to Rose Bakery, I could see why only girls talk about this place. It’s not that the decor is pink or particularly floral but something about it just screams lady town.
My friend, Maki, and I went for lunch as it’s one of her favourite places to eat in Tokyo and I’ve been wanting to go for a while. There were 3 lunch specials costing between ¥1100 – ¥1200 which includes a main, bread, salad and drink. Not bad considering the quality of the food. Just make sure you save room for the amazing looking desserts. I’ll admit it, I’m not much of a dessert fan (I usually choose cheese if I have to choose anything) but the desserts here were too good looking to say no to. We both said a big YES to the carrot cake, even before we had chosen our meals. Gah, I’m still dreaming of the cream cheese frosting.
They use organic products where they can and the atmosphere is bright and relaxed with cute plants hanging from the ceilings. There’s also another branch in Marunouchi, but Maki tells me that the Kichijoji one is better. But maybe I’ll have to go to the Marunouchi branch and sample the carrot cake just to make sure.
