Meat platter. Doesn't look big, but it filled me up.
Vegetarian platter.
Baclava, Turkish delight and coffee. Happy endings.
Why are there so many Lebanese restaurants in that little area around Cleveland St and Elizabeth St in Surry Hills? I’m not complaining, it just seems funny to have about 10 all in one spot.
The Prophet is one of the little cluster of the Lebanese restaurants in the area. Ahhh Lebanese food, I love pretty much everything about it. Hummus, lady fingers, falafel, tabouli and an endless supply of Lebanese bread. Gah, so good.
So there are a couple of things I specifically liked about The Prophet:
- The waitstaff were really nice. Genuinely friendly and helpful.
- The platters had a good selection on them and weren’t too big.
- No belly dancers! Or only on request for groups of 10 or more. I know I seem like a party pooper, but I just don’t love belly dancers. I mean, I wouldn’t mind them if they danced for about 10 minutes and didn’t try to get me to dance with them. No, no part of me wants to get up and dance with you, so please don’t try. I spend the entire time getting anxious they are going to ask me. I don’t need that kind of stress.
- Turkish delight for dessert. YUM. Although I feel my teeth getting a little looser every time I take a bite into one.
As a side note, have you ever had Lebanese bread with Nutella? It’s awesome. When I was a kid, I lived next to a Lebanese family who told me about this. Since then, it’s been a guilty pleasure and I don’t think I’ll grow out of it anytime soon. Apparently there’s a whole Facebook group dedicated to this.
