Cosy…

Nourishing Quarter definitely lives up to the first half of its name… It really is nourishing.

Being in Nourishing Quarter is like being in a vintage furniture shop, except you’re being served delicious Asian food rather than manhandling furniture you’re probably not going to buy. I love the mismatched crockery and the equally mismatched furniture. It just adds to the whole charm of the place.

I couldn’t go past the Pretty Dumplings (yes, they were called that) – quinoa, vegetables, coriander and watercress all draped over each other languidly on the plate. I could have done with a second plate.

The Passage to India via Saigon from the Min Dynasty was so very good. I could see myself eating this to cure me from a cold. A vegetarian’s version of chicken soup, perhaps? The Spicy lemongrass in textured tofu with seasonal vegetables was fresh and full of flavour, not too spicy and a little sweet.

2 mains and an entree were more than enough to feed three girls… But of course, there is always room for dessert.

3 cheesecakes were on the menu and believe it or not, they are gluten free, sugar free and dairy free! When we asked one of the waitstaff about this, he showed us the recipe, and it’s true – no gluten, sugar or dairy. AMAZING. We ordered the blueberry and lemon cheesecake. And the taste? You wouldn’t believe it was almost healthy for you. It was rich and creamy and confusing to me that it had no dairy or sugar.

It got a bit hectic at the end of our sitting (there are 2 sittings) and everyone leaves at the same time, which ends in ridiculous lines at the till and unnecessary post-dinner stress. But hey, you can’t be awesome all of the time, right? Still, it would be nice if they worked something out with that, because it was a bit crazy.

All in all, I loved Nourishing Quarter. Doggy bag in hand, I went home feeling very nourished indeed.
