Pork belly, spicy sofrito, pickled red cabbage on 3 mini brioche buns.
Pickled & Candied Salad $14. The candied walnuts are awesome!
Pork & truffle hot dog with potato fries – $10
Assembly fries with cheese and truffle sauce – $8
Chilli pork hot dog – $9
Warm chocolate fondant and coconut gooey – $12. Not as gooey as I’d hoped for, but still good.
Assembly Bar bar.
I remember a time when it was impossible to find a bar in the CBD that wasn’t filled with the Ryan’s Bar or Establishment type crowd (apologies if you go there). Thankfully, there seems to be a few good small bars opening around the place, which makes post work drinking and eating a possibility in the city.
Slightly hard to find, Assembly Bar has a bit of a saloon type feel and serves up the kind of food you find at most trendy small bars – hot dogs and sliders, but no tacos. I’m not complaining, I love this whole hot dog/slider thing Sydney has going on at the moment. Sharing plates is a great option because you get a try a bunch of different things – do yourself a favour and try the fries with cheese and truffle sauce ($8.00).
I don’t feel like writing too much… I just want to say the food is good, not expensive and it’s fun here. I’ve already been twice and I’m sure I’ll be here many more times.
Tip: Watch out for the candles. If you’re a klutz like me, you will knock one over and you’ll end up with hot wax all over your jacket, tights and favourite boots. Damn.
