Start and end this blog post with the dessert. Why not?
I’ve been wanting to go to Chef’s Gallery for a while. I’ve heard lots of good reports and seen too many photos on Instagram that have made me really want to go. Trouble is, I’m pretty impatient, so the idea of waiting half an hour or so for dinner doesn’t sit well with me, but we exercised patience* and were well rewarded.
*By exercising patience, what I really mean is that we went round the corner to Ton Ton, ordered a big plate of pre-dinner dinner (karaage, takoyaki and onigiri) and $2 beers. No regrets.
The food here is great – not super budget but not expensive either. There’s so much variety, you really need to go with a group to try lots of different things. And when’s the last time you heard a waiter swear? Not at you or overheard in your direction, but just in casual conversation when describing a dish? Usually it would have been a bit weird, but when asking him what were the various parts of the world’s cutest dessert (see above) – he called the chestnuts the “pig’s shit”. Whatta guy.
So glad I finally went here! None of the dishes let the team down and it was generally a whole lot of fun. Yessss, I will be back. I want to go back for the mini burgers and that Peking duck wrapped in roti again. And, of course, for that completely Instagrammable dessert.
